Helping Your Pet Age Gracefully

As your pet gets older, they need a little extra attention and special care to stay healthy and comfortable. Our senior wellness program is designed to keep your pet in great shape as they age, while helping us catch any issues early on—when they’re easier to treat. Regular checkups can even help your pet live longer!

Catching problems early is always important, but it becomes even more crucial as your pet enters their senior years. Aging pets are more at risk for conditions like arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and kidney or liver issues. The tricky part is that pets often don’t show signs of serious illnesses until they’re pretty advanced.

A Tailored Care Plan

When it comes to senior pets, their “golden years” vary based on breed and size. Smaller dogs tend to live longer than larger ones, and cats typically outlive dogs. We’ll help you figure out what stage of life your pet is in.

Before your pet reaches their senior stage, we recommend a baseline exam around 7 years old for dogs and 8 years old for cats. This helps us establish what’s normal for them so we can monitor any changes as they age. After that, more frequent checkups and diagnostic tests will help us stay on top of any health issues.

We can also address common age-related symptoms like cognitive dysfunction syndrome (similar to Alzheimer’s in people) and help improve your pet’s quality of life. From managing pain and suggesting the right diet and exercise plan to making changes to their environment, we’ll work with you to keep your pet comfortable and happy in their later years.
